The sky in a room: the astronomical observatory
Villa Ferraia, Siena Tuscany
Our rediscovery of the four classical elements begins with the air. Far away from the light pollution of the city, the astronomical observatory of Villa Ferraia, set on a hill rising out of the wood to a height of 350 m above sea level, offers its visitors unforgettable experiences. From this privileged position it is possible to probe the sky with the superb technology of a professional observatory: a Meade LX 200 R14’’ f/10 telescope with GPS; CCD camera for deep-sky shots of the planets and moon with direct link to a maxi-screen; fiber optic network connected with the conference hall; meeting room with a capacity of twenty-five and fast internet connection. A unique feature of this place, the observatory has been selected by the U.A.I. (Italian Union of Amateur Astronomers) as a facility qualified to house meetings and conventions of astronomers.
